Students will track the arrival of spring by observing the growth and development of tulips at four different regions of the country.
Main Objective:
Inquiry-based unit requires student to decide necessary data to reach desired outcome.
Additional Objectives:
Students will understand flower anatomy and seed germination
Students will understand the ecological differences at various regions of the country
Students will understand how/what organisms tell humans about seasonal changes
Students will understand the reasoning behind worldwide seasonal changes
Assessment:
Students will be assessed on the following criteria:
As an individual: Interaction with students, figuring out what data to collect about tulips, researching, planting, making observations, communicating with other students about their findings.
As a group: Organization of data, synthesis and evaluation of data, publishing on blog/wiki, published end product, unit exam, etc.
As a class: Organization of data

When?
Students do preliminary data collection and collaboration with students of other schools in the fall to track the falling leaves. Bulbs for the spring will be planted in September. then make observations throughout the year (major data March-June)--Tulips grow during specific times of the year. (Reflection: data all year: air temperature, soil temperature, etc.)
